It’s a very special evening! You’ve been invited to a fabulous party. You get dressed up, have your hair done, get into a fight with your spouse, but finally, you are on your way. Then you get to the party and…No one is there! What a let down. All of that time and effort for nothing. That’s what having a great business, but no sales leads is like. You might have an excellent idea, great equipment, a staff ready to start immediately….but, lo and behold there are no guests at the party (no customers for the business). Your business success is dependent on your ability to attract prospects; in your ability to get them to buy from you. No doubt you already know this, but how, you might ask, can you get those leads? Read on for five helpful tips to get more leads.
1. Invite Them In
One of the best, and often the most feared, ways of getting leads is by simply asking them to come over. Or in the case of online businesses, asking them to take a look at your website, to opt in to your newsletter or your marketing list. More often than not, the leads that actually become buyers come from people you communicate with. Join online forums, go to trade shows, association meetings, and networking events where your customers might be. This allows you to start building a list of contacts you can actually market to. It also gives you the added benefit of speaking one on one with your potential customers to learn more about their needs, allowing you to better tailor either your product/service or your marketing message to address that need.
2. Pay Attention to Your Content
Building content on your website is extremely important in generating leads. First, there is the search engine optimization (SEO) value. Have content on your website about every service or product you provide – at least a paragraph worth, a seperate page for each ideally. This gives you a greater chance at being found in the search engines when people do a search for your product or service.
The other value to having great content is it helps convert more of your web visitors into leads. Traffic means nothing if those people aren’t reaching out to find out more or to sign up/purchase. So give them enough information about your products or services to get that visitor to reach out.
3. Buy Your Leads
You’re trying to run your business, you don’t have time to spend all day on forums and attending events as discussed in tip #1. Those are still important to do but you can only attend so many. It’s perfectly alright then to pay someone else to do that for you or, even better, to just do the dirty work and find the leads for you. There are many individuals and businesses who operate on a cost per lead basis. They deliver the leads right to your phone or email, and all you need to do is pay them for the find and take over the follow up with the lead.
4. Add Low-Cost, High ROI Advertising Options
Advertising works. The only problem is that it can be expensive, so you need to find lower cost, higher ROI options that can generate leads quickly. Print advertisements like mailers and yellow pages can be expensive and inefficient. Instead leverage digital marketing platforms such as Google Adwords, LinkedIn Ads, and Facebook ads to target those people most likely to be your customer. When leads come in you can track them back to their advertising source, allowing you to determine what your ROI is, and enabling you to cut out the more expensive ads.
5. Look for Referrals
Ever since the art of marketing began, way before the Greek and Roman empires, word of mouth has been the best way to get customers, and today, this still works. Word-of-mouth referrals are the best type of advertising, and often create the best sales. Put together a great offer, with great content and you have the potential for some fabulous referral traffic. You can do this by offering valuable information, great opportunities, and put it out on the Internet’s social networks.Additionally, or alternatively, you can go straight to your current customer base and ask them to leave referrals and recommendations on LinkedIn, Facebook, and other high traffic places where potential customers might be reading up on you.
Lead generation comes from a variety of sources, each with different challenges and time frames. You should experiment with multiple methods to determine which is the most efficient and effective for your business. As you try to grow your business, don’t get discouraged if a lead generation method doesn’t work. Remember, never give up. Successful businesses are those that fight through the challenges.
