He was an evil man, who sent thousands to their death for no reason, but killing him makes him a mertyr. he was "yesterdays man" anyway - weak, no longer able to lead, impotent. To keep him locked up inside for the rest of his life would have been worse for this man that to die a martyr's death.
Capital punishment is never justified in my opinion, but then again I live in a little more progressive, and slightly more enlightened country that America or other countries in the world. (In the sence of capital punishment)
