You guys make it seem like you have to call the company like Al Capone saying your going to hang them upside down from their ankles and shake the monies out. I think the idea is so call as THE GOOD GUY, you know like your doing them a favor by selling them the domain so their evil competitor won't use it against them. At least thats what I understood from OP, just takes some social engineering.

I would stay away from this one. Too many ways to make money without being shady. First off you are taking advantage of business owners by getting a name that is the same as the business with a different domain type..... Then if they say no thanks, you want to sell it to their competition.... And then on top of all of that if you still don't sell it, you want to yank GoDaddy chain and return the name for a refund.

Please, go home. I live in this area and the last thing that I want to do is start pissing off local business owners.

Yeah thats a good point, seems like to much work to get something efficient going. I can only imagine how many people catch on to this real quick and put you in a hairy situation. Plus i would not want to run the risk of cops being involved , or lawyers for that matter, if they get nervous and think they are being extorted or something.. You may scare suzy - q manager away and off to the piggly wiggly she goes

I remember coming across a semi similar method on WF. They would build a website in the same industry and get it to outrank local keywords that these businesses were after. They would then contact these businesses to sell the website at a premium price. Ofcourse the "call to action" was either they buy it or you would sell it to a competitor.

Good idea to make profit! This is time consuming job and interested one should have the knowledge to find the best domains which can be appreciated by the company administrative. This is creative job what a person can do on internet but in start this job needs funds to buy various domains. If some one has funds, he/she can buy the specific domains from GoDaddy!
