I usually use Kaspersky, but I found it becoming a cpu hog whenever I was trying to compile something. So I moved to bitdefender. It seems to work well imo.

To be honest with you those 2 are about the worst you can have. Kaspersky and Panda Platnium are about the best you can have.

Dr.P
You're Right, those to are almost worst if Not worst than the Rogue's Themselves. System Hogging, Registry hijacking Fools those 2 Are. You have to fight to uninstall em off your Box ...well not really but Yall get My point.

Kaspersky Is The Beast.. But for a nice Little Free tool for Regular home Browsing Avast has Been Ok..I put it on Most Systems I fix for Family and friends...That or Panda free.Version...Don't care For AVG Much.

Now Once you've gotten badly Infected well that's a different Ball game. Have to Break of some Of the Harder Specialized Tools..OTL by OldTimer Is A great Analyze and Removel tool For Malware,It's Like Hijack this But with other features..Have to be careful with some of the stronger stuff Like combofix and such they'll eat your system alive if you don't know what you're doing...But I don't wanna Hijack this Thread with My Long windedness ...LOL..Is that even a word?

As for me I think Avira is good enough to handle your system protection issues. It is very efficient and does not eat up your ram.

Is AVG still good to use for basic everyday use or is it not even worth it though free?

I'm surprised no one here has mentioned AVAST... I been using it for years now and it's free for home use. So far it's been working really well. Scans emails also... any else using Avast?

I use Avast internet security 7 2012, in addition to the previous version. Avast is great, it does it all!!

I've been using AVG for years now and it works perfectly great for me. I also try Norton but it doesn't work very well for me because it takes most of my memory that affects the computers performance.
