Just wanted to let you guys know I shared this method with my brother who has a driveway and parking lot sealing business and he has gotten tons of calls from people that wanted to know more about the lead gathering process.

He's yet to get anyone actually call in a lead, but at least this is proving to be a viable means to get telemarketers without an expensive contract.

Re:

Man this is exactly the project I just started working on. This is some great stuff here. Thanks for the share!

I honestly had this idea in my head for a while. There are so many unemployed people, that it would be no problem hiring a few cold calling salesmen and paying them straight up commision.

Just have to think of a way to capitalize on this.

I'm attaching a complete method that capitalizes on teh same principles, and I think those of you who think this is good, will find it good also. It has cold scripts within the download.

Google calendar for scheduling?

Hey, I was just reading this post and an idea popped into my head: Why not use google calendar for scheduling? You could setup a gmail account for the business, and give all your telemarketers the password to access the account, then they could update the calendar with appointments they've made. They could put in the time, date, client info, and even the telemarketers initials with a date so you can easily see how many appointments they've set (you can search myCalendars with the initials as the search term).

I've been known to overcomplicate things in the past, but I'm one who likes to stay organized, and this could be a good way to have all scheduling be instantaneously up to date. I'm thinking of my buddy who runs a one-man GC business and it would be easy to double book which is a sure-fire way to get a contractor a bad name for himself.

Just a thought...

Great post.....I believe in telemarketing, but keeping them motivated is tough. It does work, I must admit. Just keep those ads posted.

Double booking is a very easy work around. All you have to do is call one or the other and reschedule for another time. Either that day or the next , which ever is better for the potential customer.

My wife almost replied to a similar ad on CL when I told her we could set up such a program for ourselves. Her employee mindset is an obstacle (especially as a SAHM), but we'll see how it goes.

This is the One and only part of the forum that I have not ever read before. The "Offline" stuff.

It looks great though! I will definitely have to, when i get time, grab a cup of tea, and browse around some more.

One of the benefits of doing more offline stuff is that when someone asks you "what do you do" you can avoid having to explain the internet side of things (and getting the "oh-so-you're-basically-a-nigerian-spammer-then" look, haha)

THIS IS CRAP!!!

THIS IS TOTAL CRAP...
YES They will generate "leads"...
BUT they are WORTHLESS leads that won't convert to sales...

How do I know?
I covered these type of leads ...
Appointment setters attack shoppers at Home Depot and Sam's Club...
Yes, some people will say yes to "A FREE Estimate"...
But they won't be home, answer the door etc...

For one company I went on 14 of these appointments and oly 2 were even home...
One of which was having a party...

THIS IS A SHIT BUSINESS MODEL...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME
DON'T YOU THINK IF SOMEONE IS MOTIVATED TO BUY A SERVICE THEY WILL INITIATE THE APPOINTMENT?
EVER HEARD OF GOOGLE?

You're an idiot. Think about the figures you're quoting:

14 leads at $15 per lead = $210

Of those 14, only 2 were home. One was partying and one, presumably was interested in talking.

That's a conversion rate of 14:1 / 7.5% for the leads, which is pretty damn good.

Assuming the product or service you're selling could earn you thousands of dollars the whole thing seems pretty bloody fantastic.

If you work out your average earning per successful sale then you can work out your minimum required number of leads before losing money.

If one sale can make you $1000 then you can afford to have 65 unsuccessful leads (at $15 a lead) before making a sale.

Common sense would also say that if this method really is as bad as you think, why do so many huge companies do it?
