This is a really good promotion method. But what if it's just me and I don't have any clients? I wouldn't have anything to pay telemarketers.

Hi everyone, The method sounds good in theory like lots of methods. Reality sometimes is another story. It would be great if some out there utiiizing this method could provide some stats.

like in all theories you have to test things yourself and see if they work for you, dont sit around waiting for some else to validate the methiod, it cost nothing but your time so what are you waiting for? worse case your out a couple hours big deal, put your own spin on it make it yours and make it work for you.

Ok, for those that have tried it...

I wonder if there are any legal issues with it. The telemarketing thing and do not call lists. Do individual telemarketers become not responsible for checking the government's do not call list? Dr. P - Did you get any irate phone calls from people pissed that they were called?

I like the idea of this model and I use 1099's for all sales stuff - but I wouldn't want it to bite them, or me, or the company on the arse.

Dr. P - thoughts? Anybody else?

The Do Not Call List does not apply to businesses only residential.

Have you tried giving the callers a percentage of the profit? It might create higher quality leads and more sales.

How do you setup those Google Places??

Yup, there are different methods of how to motivate the cold callers. See I started my own business and had to do cold calling. Sometimes I had days, that I couldn't believe myself - my success rate was like 100 % - e.g. 10 calls, 10 appointments. Other times it was shi**y and I called 20 people and got only 1 appointment. There are many factors that you must consider, but you have to have something valuable to sell. My stuff was selling for $1000+ so I didn't need many appointments to live off of it. You just have to try, try, try and maybe you will have clients like I do now: "I couldn't reject you. There just wasn't any opportunity." :D So now I call nobody, because everyone says YES! And it didn't take long... Few years of cold calling and you are where I am now with phone calls.

But back to motivation: Percentage of sale may be a better motivation to cold callers. But only in case your sales people are closing a lot of sales. Otherwise you may also earn a bad name. And also percentage of sales must be higher than if you were paying for leads (I mean in absolute money).

And don't worry about paying someone a lot of money - heck it is even easier if they quadruple your biz...

Love the idea, only concern for me is the quality of the people doing the cold calling. As they represent your 'brand' I'd want to interview them to ensure they had the personality to cope with aggressive people and rejection. Only recently I hired an english woman to cold call businesses to try and arrange interviews for a financial product. She seemed perfect, quietly spoken but firm. It was only after 2 weeks and very few leads did I realise she couldn't cope with rejection and frequently burst into tears after a call. Made me feel real bad.

Good idea.
Another one is using postcards. Send out 1,000, and even if conversion is 1%, that is good enough for me. Especially when you factor in the lifetime value of the customer.

excellent share Doc, im actually doing something quite similar, ive been testing a variety of scripts to see which one closes more. So far ive had pretty good results. This strategy can work great for CPA if twisted a bit. Every needs to stop asking so many questions and go try it out yourself and see if works. Then if you like the results, scale it up. Every industry has a different value to their leads. Just my $.02

Great idea. Im in the process of setting up my own offline business and Iv come to learn that it doesn't matter how good your company is, if you cant get people through the door then you will fail. I'll definitely be try out my own take on this method. Thanks
