I want to know the best tactics on how to do keyword/market research.

Where do you begin?

what are all of the steps involved?

What are the best tools for the job?

What sites help you better locate what you are looking for?

Anything else you can think of to answer this.

im not too much of an expert at this field but i think i know the basics

it also depends what you are doing keyword research for...a blog im assuming?

if so basically you are just trying to find a niche that is in demand,but doesnt have alot of competition

then you find the best set of keyword that people are searching for, but there not alot of competion so you rank better

I will try and answer your questions as best as I can.


1. I would start with Google adwords keyword tool and the SEObook
Try and go into markets where people are looking for solutions to DESPERATE problems!
(Notice how I said desperate!)

Ex. Weight Loss, Dating, Make Money, Quick Smoking


2. Try and just google the keywords and start there.


3. The best tools in my opinions have always been google keywords (now in adwords) and SEO book


4. Try and look for sites that are well known within your market place and see how much
traffic they get!

It's always the best to start identifying who are your top competitors, from what terms are they getting most of their traffic, SEMrush can provide a report for this. SEMrush can also give an overview on how tough the competition is so is the Google keyword planner.
