Because Spain is amazing and Russia didn't want it as bad as Spain. It's all about how much you want something as to whether you get it or not.

To answer your ? I think it was Spain's ability to get around the Russian defence so well. In the previous games the Russian defence where they pull back all thier mid players and block out the forwards, has been very good at stopping the opponent offense. Russia's offence wasn't enough to keep them alive.

I personally like Russia much better, but spain has a lot of skill and they wanted it so bad, And in the last ten minutes i kinda thought russia knew they were going to lose and gave up. But either way it was a good game

Russia changed their approach to the gave against Spain. I think since they lost the previous meeting 4-1 they decided to sit back and try to defend more and not attack in the same way that they did in every other game since the first meeting with Spain. In other Russian matches they were flying down the field and attacking with speed, against Spain this time it was like they were in slow motion. I think that they started the game playing very conservatively and then when it was time to speed up play and attack they just could shift gears and do it. I am really disappointed when teams do this. Russia played better in their first loss against Spain and that scoreline didn't really reflect how Russia played in that game. Since Russia was beaten on counter attacks in their first meeting with Spain I think that Russia was afraid to send too many players forward in attack. I also feel that Russia didn't exploit the right side when Sergio Ramos for Spain would attack.

Sitting back and trying not to concede a goal played into Spain's hands since they are very good at keeping the ball in possession.
